Hilltop Credit Partners are proud to be working in partnership with Centrepoint, the UK’s leading youth homelessness charity supporting 16-25 year olds impacted by homelessness. We are supporting the Centrepoint Independent Living programme – their most ambitious to date.

The issue

Centrepoint’s accommodation-based support helps young people move-on from homelessness and reach a level of independence where they can move into longer-term accommodation with minimal or no support.

Right now 1 in 5 young people are ready to move into independence but can’t do so because of:

  • Low wages, higher rates of unemployment and insecure employment;
  • High rents and upfront costs, particularly in cities like London and Manchester;
  • Lack of social housing and lower benefit rates for young people, even those that have been homeless;
  • Private landlords not willing to lend to young people, particularly those who have lived in supported accommodation.

The need

Youth homelessness is reaching crisis point. Every year over 100,000 young people ask for help because they are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The reasons why are complex, but for many being at home is simply not safe.

Centrepoint Independent Living

The Centrepoint Independent Living programme’s objective is to create homes, jobs and training to support homeless young people when they are ready to live independently. Its vision is bold and will require over £16m investment to deliver the homes needed as the first step.

Centrepoint has launched the first stage of the Independent Living programme at 54 Lugard Road, London SE15. This project involves transforming the site from its existing structure, which is comprised of 8 units over two stories, to one boasting 33 modular units split over two blocks of three stories, as well as a communal garden, bike shed and seating area for young people to use.

The full development of the Lugard Road property is predicted to cost £1.5 million overall.

Speaking about the programme, Paul Oberschneider – Founder and CEO of Hilltop Credit Partners said: “The programme fits with Hilltop’s mission to alleviate the national housing crisis. We want to work with our trusted client base to achieve something special: to raise £50,000 to pay for a modular unit in the programme’s flagship development at Lugard Road. Centrepoint would welcome any donations to help achieve this target.”
